Gil Baumgarten

Fiduciary Financial Advisor, Segment Wealth Management

Gil Baumgarten is a 38-year veteran of the investment industry. After beginning his career at EF Hutton in the early 1980s, Gil became a top producer for UBS and Smith Barney, what is today Morgan Stanley. However, Gil found that Wall Street routinely emphasized its own interests over the clients. In 2010, Gil left the brokerage world to start Segment Wealth Management, a fiduciary firm where the interests of the client and the firm could align.

Gil is a multi-year recipient of the "Top 1,200 Financial Advisors in America" distinction by Barron’s, where he also ranked in the Top 35 Advisors in Texas for 2022. In 2019, Gil was named one of "America’s Top-20 Thought Leaders" on the topic of Exchange Traded Funds by Barron’s and The Wall Street Journal. The Houston Business Journal named Gil one of the "Most Admired CEOs in Houston."

In 2021, Gil launched his first book on investing titled, “FOOLI$H: How investors Get Worked Up and Worked Over By the System,” which hit Best Seller status on Amazon.

Gil is also an award-winning woodworker, specializing in a particular art form called segmentation, from which the name Segment Wealth Management is derived. Segmentation is the assembly of various species of wood, cut to fit in a precise pattern. This precision extends to Gil’s wealth management and investment process, where risk components and financial tactics are added and subtracted from client accounts with the same attention to detail.

Segment Wealth Management is a leading financial advisory firm founded on the belief that low fees, tax efficiency, and maintaining a long-term perspective are key to financial success. Segment specializes in investment strategies and provides asset management services, with customized portfolio construction integrating highly disciplined tax and risk management. Our 200 clients have entrusted us with more than $1.2 billion in assets.
